It can be tough to stay healthy during the holidays. Office parties, decadent desserts, family get-togethers, they can be enough to throw even the most health-conscious off track. At Provenance Meals, we’re all about balance. And with alcohol ever-abundant in particular this time of year, here are our favorite clean cocktail recipes and some tips we like to follow to keep our imbibing in check.
The holidays are officially here! As the season kicks off and our calendars quickly become filled with shopping, cookie exchanges, holiday parties, and traveling to see family, we'd like to share some quick tips you can easily use to address cravings that may creep into your routine.
At Provenance, we believe that when you keep your microbiome in balance, your overall health improves and maintaining balanced energy levels, weight and mood are no longer a struggle. That’s why we’re introducing a new way to detox – one that relies on the proven principles of functional medicine to heal your gut through clean eating, targeted supplements, and nutrient-rich shakes.
The old adage “you are what you eat” isn’t entirely true - you are what your food eats. This is why we are huge proponents of the health benefits of pastured animal products. This means grass-fed beef that roams on pasture and chickens (and their eggs) that graze in a field on bugs. Organic isn’t good enough – this just means they have access to the outdoors, but may never use it, and are fed organic feed, which is not a part of their natural diet and changes the nutritional composition of the meat.
After many requests we are excited to announce that we will be starting to occasionally share recipes off our weekly menu. The dish were sharing today is not only seasonal but will also help to keep you warm from the inside out during the change in weather. Our Golden Milk Oats is made with anti-inflammatory super ingredients turmeric and ginger. Plus it's seriously easy to make and the perfect quick breakfast idea in your busy morning routine.
Where we source is part of our "do no harm commitment" - we use only sustainable seafood, grass-fed meats, and pasture-raised poultry. And we believe part of this commitment is to support and buy from our local farming community in the Northeast Region as much as we can
With Labor Day officially behind us, that means fall is around the corner and it's time for us all to get back to the grind before the holiday season is upon us. Whether ordering our prepared meal plans where you choose your meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner from our weekly menu, signing up for a cleanse program, or cooking throughout the week, keep your wellness a priority and make a commitment to yourself to eat clean. To help with this transition and make it easier to get back to your normal NYC routine, we've put together some ideas for quick breakfast and lunches.
Fish are often touted as one of the healthiest things you can eat. They’re loaded with essential nutrients like bio-available protein, fat-soluble vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. But like choosing organic produce or pasture-raised meats, sustainable seafood is best for both your body and the earth.
At home, plants make up the majority of my diet. Dark leafy greens, seasonal produce, and plant-based proteins like nuts and seeds are consumed and enjoyed every day. Spain has been much the opposite of this. And yet... I feel fantastic. My digestion is great, my hair is shiny and healthy, my nails are strong and long, and my mood is awesome. The fact is, I’m eating a lot more nutrients of the kind that I don’t normally get in America. So what is it about these foods that are making me feel so good? Here are some of the nutrients I’m incorporating, and how you can get them too, even if you follow a 100% plant-based diet.
Let's get this out of the way first - fat does not make you fat. Fat is an essential part of the human diet, the trick is to choose the good-for-you fats. In fact, long-term adherence to a low-fat diet can backfire, causing hormones to fall out of balance and a whole range of issues from weight gain to fatigue. One of the main sources of fat in our everyday diet is oil. We are very picky about the types of oil we cook with here at Provenance Meals.
Stabilizing blood sugar is the key to managing energy, weight, mood, hormones and cravings. Many people are riding the wave of energy ups and down during the day and it can take a tool on you both physically and emotionally. For many, they know what foods are healthy and that eating clean is the best step in their wellness journey. So their big picture nutrition isn't an issue, it's the little modifications we make in their day to day that end up having a huge impact.
By far the most frequent question we get is “How many calories are in your meals?” We very consciously don’t include the nutritional information. Why? The simple answer is that calorie content is not a good indicator of how healthy something is. True health, and even weight loss, goes far beyond calories in vs. calories out. Here are the five main reasons why we believe counting calories is not essential on your wellness journey.
