The Science and Philosophy Behind Our Detox Programs

An increasing body of evidence shows that the health of our microbiome – the community of trillions of bacteria living inside your gastrointestinal tract – plays an enormous role in weight, metabolism, immunity, energy and mood. This amazing ecosystem of bacteria actually outnumbers the human cells in our body and is crucial in helping us resist disease, reduce anxiety, manage hunger cravings, and maintain an ideal weight.

At Provenance, we believe that when you keep your microbiome in balance, your overall health improves and maintaining balanced energy levels, weight and mood are no longer a struggle. Our philosophy of detoxing is one that relies on the proven principles of functional medicine to heal your gut with delicious foods and beverages that flood your body with nutrients plus targeted probiotics supplements to support your digestion.

By focusing on the ingredients and types of foods you are putting into your body, you can assist your liver’s natural detoxification processes. If you’ve recently been on vacation or had a period of time when you were eating processed and inflammatory foods, giving yourself a reset period can be very healing.

The Principles of Functional Medicine

The Provenance Detox and the Feel Good Fix programs follow the “4R” program of cleansing: Remove, Replace, Reinoculate and Repair.

Eliminate inflammatory triggers:

Gluten, Dairy, Refined Sugar, GMOs, Meat, Egg, Corn, Soy, Refined Vegetable Oils, Unhealthy Fats, Additives, and Preservatives

Remove anything that interferes with a balanced microbiome. Dietary triggers can cause inflammation and damage the gut lining. When the normally tight linings of the gut begin to separate, food particles leak into the bloodstream where they don’t belong and cause an immune response that puts the body on high alert and continues a vicious cycle of increased inflammation and compromised gut health.

Replace with digestive support. By adding in essential enzymes and herbal and botanical extracts, we can improve digestion and nutrient absorption that has been compromised by the modern Western diet.

Reinoculate with prebiotics and probiotics. Feed the healthy flora that live in your gut with prebiotic foods such as onions, garlics, sunchokes, radishes, and jicama. Probiotics restore beneficial bacteria via fermented foods or supplements.

Repair and reduce inflammation with herbal anti-microbials, abundant organic vegetables, healthy fats, pasture-raised proteins rich in vitamins and minerals and amino acids. Ingredients found in our detox that promote gut repair include collagen, L-Glutamine and other amino acids, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C, E, and zinc.

The importance of supporting a balanced microbiome can’t be stressed enough. Most of our immune system is actually located in our gut and 90% of our neurotransmitters (such as seratonin) are made in our gut. That’s why the gut has been referred to as “the second brain”.

Imbalances and leaky gut have been linked to hormonal imbalance, autoimmune disease, anxiety, depression, and skin problems, just to name a few.

We believe in the body’s natural ability to achieve health and maintain balance, when given the right tools. By stimulating your body’s natural ability to heal, you’ll feel lighter, energized, and mentally focused.
